Tales of the Purple House (Hikayat Elbeit Elorjowani)

Nominated for the AFFZ Film Award

Abbas Fahdel focuses on Lebanon in this film. The title refers to the purple house in which Fahdel and his wife, the painter Nour Ballouk, live in southern Lebanon. The pandemic, the chaos following the explosion in the port of Beirut, and the situation of Syrian refugees in the country are major topics in the film, as are the wars of recent years. As a contrast to the often-absurd activities of human beings, Fahdel gives Nour's cats ample screen time.
